Report: Nichols a finalist for Radford job
MBB: The former Racer assistant spent six seasons at Murray State

Shane Nichols, who spent six seasons working under Matt McMahon at Murray State from 2015-21, is reportedly one of three finalists for the Radford head coaching vacancy.
Rocco Miller of Bracketeer.org is reporting Nichols, Virginia Tech Assistant Coach JD Byers and Notre Dame Assistant Coach Kyle Getter are the three finalists for the job.
Nichols has spent the last four seasons at Radford working for his brother Darris, who earlier this week left Radford to become the head coach at La Salle.
Growing up in Radford, Virginia, Nichols played his college basketball at Wofford, where he was a three-year starter, scoring nearly 1,500 career points and was a multi-time All-Southern Conference honoree.
After a brief professional career overseas, Nichols returned to Wofford to start his coaching career as a graduate assistant. After assistant coaching stops at Niagara and Hofstra, Nichols came to Murray State in 2015 to join Matt McMahon’s first coaching staff. He was part of the program during the two NCAA Tournament trips in 2018 and 2019, and helped the Racers win three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference regular season championships. Nichols left Murray State in the spring of 2021 to join his brother at Radford who had just gotten his first head coaching job.
