2021 NFL Draft: Could Kyle Trask be a first-rounder?
With the possibility of five quarterbacks being drafted in the first 10 picks, will Kyle Trask be a first-rounder too?
The first three picks of the 2021 NFL Draft now feel like locks-1. Jacksonville Jaguars-Trevor Lawrence, 2. New York Jets-Zach Wilson, 3. San Francisco 49ers-Mac Jones or Justin Fields. Beyond that, whoever is left from Jones or Fields and Trey Lance may make it five quarterbacks in the first 10 picks.
After those, the next chunk of quarterback prospects are likely second or third-round picks. But ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller thinks one of them could become the sixth first-round quarterback.
Via 247 Sports:
I do think Kyle Trask is an intriguing quarterback,” Miller said on Wednesday’s edition of ‘Get Up.’ “Let's go back throughout the college football season, Kyle Trask was a Heisman candidate, he was one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football. We talk so much about Kyle Pitts and Kadarius Toney, Kyle Trask was the guy getting them the football. The accuracy is there. All he needs is a clean pocket to operate from. He's battle tested in the SEC.
I'm a believer in Kyle Trask. I think the big question for the Pittsburgh Steelers is, does he make it to pick No. 55 overall? They're not the only team looking at this tier two group and saying, ‘we have to get one of these guys.’
It would be a surprise (to see a sixth quarterback go in round one) but I don't think any of us would fall out of our chairs because of the fifth year contract option…..I know there are rumors the Saints like him a lot. The Steelers are pick No. 24. Now, you might want to trade back a bit but remember, the Baltimore Ravens selected Lamar Jackson with the No. 32 overall pick….I don't think it'd be a shock. Another team to keep your eye on is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady might play until he's 50 but Tampa might want to start thinking quarterback of the future. Kyle Trask would fit very well with what Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich are doing over there.”
Trask had a big 2020 season at Florida, with 4,283 yards (second in the SEC and the country, behind Jones), a nation-leading 43 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 12 games. His size would be an NFL model (6-foot-5, 236 pounds), but he is not a high-end athlete.

Trask would be a reach in the first round, even with the appeal of a fifth-year option in mind if a team likes him enough. The premium placed on quarterbacks pushes draft stocks up sometimes, with Trask and Kellen Mond the lead beneficiaries this year if there’s a sixth first-round signal caller.
