Congress
Republicans could temporarily lose their narrow House majority because Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) were nominated to join President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. Gaetz has since withdrawn and will not return to the House. All three will be replaced in special elections in heavily Republican districts.
Statement from Idaho Senator James Risch (newsletter 11/22/24, reiterated in 12/05/24 email blast):
On Trump Cabinet Appointments:
“I have voted for every single appointment that Donald Trump has ever made. I have carried them on the [Senate] floor.”
“Not many people in Idaho have done more for him than I have. I worked with him when he was president, before I was ranking member and then chairman of the [Senate] Foreign Relations Committee, getting his appointments across the line. I’m going to do the exact same this time. I’m already working hard at it with him and his team.”
“We’re going to work really hard to get Donald Trump and his agenda pushed forward. Like I said, I have voted for every appointment he’s ever made. I have every intention of pressing the ones that he’s made and I’m working at it hard for Idahoans.”
