As Many As 49 Children Injured In PA School Bus Crash

The crash happened on Route 115 when a tow truck driver suffered a medical emergency and hit a school bus, officials said.

BEAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, PA — Potentially dozens of children from Bear Creek Community Charter School were injured in a crash while on the school bus ride to their second day of classes Wednesday morning, Pennsylvania State Police said at a press conference Wednesday.

The crash happened on Route 115 just after 8 a.m., when a tow truck driver suffered a medical emergency, crossed into oncoming traffic, and hit the school bus—which was carrying 49 children, head on—police said.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries and the children suffered minor injuries, according to police. All of the children were taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

School officials contacted the parents of the involved children to inform them of what occurred and immediately began the process of reuniting the children with their families, police said.

"Although this was an unfortunate event, we are grateful there were no serious injuries," Trooper Bill Evans of the PA State Police said at Wednesday's news conference.
