Scottsdale City Council approves Axon headquarters and housing plan
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Scottsdale City Council voted on Tuesday night 5-2 in favor of a proposed Axon headquarters and housing project.
The approval happened after many hours of discussion.
The proposal has faced backlash from residents through initial plans that the development was too big, the buildings were too tall, and the headquarters would bring traffic to the area.
Axon went back to the drawing board throughout the past year, and now it’s up to the zoning vote.
The proposal includes a massive 250,000-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing center with around 2,000 residential units and spacing for retail shops at a plot of land near Loop 101 and Hayden Road.
Axon CEO Patrick Smith reportedly compared the development to Scottsdale Quarter.
The company’s presentation shows the HQ as an industry trend, similar to Googleplex or Meta headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif.
Tuesday’s vote amended zoning for the property.
The plan still needs approval from the State Department since that department has a deal with the city of Scottsdale.
