Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on THURSDAY, March 13, 2025.
Where I’m sorry see-thru pants — it was a good run. But now the MLB ⚾️ has a new “innovation” that’s the latest craze causing buzz for America’s pastime.
Yes, it seems a new line of MLB “Overlap” hats where the team’s logo is placed in the middle of the team’s name is causing some, uh, unfortunate results when you read them out loud.
Don’t worry MLB, I’m sure you’ll hire a merch quality-control person one of these days — although hey, maybe this provocative merch approach will help line up that new TV partner you need next year! Although it certainly looks like the TEXAS RANGERS hat takes the crown.

PLUS: Oasis will be doing a doc around their reunion tour this summer, which let’s hope isn’t turned into a short film.
ALSO: Nikki Glaser has wisely already been set to host the Golden Globes again next year.
AND: Look who’s all grown up! Top creators (MrBeast, Colin & Samir, Dude Perfect, etc.) will be holding kind of a faux early Upfront on Mar. 27 in NYC organized by creator support firm SPOTTER, where creators will present an actual slate of content they’re planning to release in the months ahead. Can’t wait to see what they have at 8 p.m. on Thursday nights!
BUT: Let’s hope those advertisers aren’t using programmatic ad buying on the open internet 😬 — a new study from ADLOOK reported by Ad Age found that the 3rd-party data used by digital buying exchanges, yeah . . . isn’t too accurate:
40% of people classified as “homeowners” were renters.
67% of folks listed as parents . . . didn’t have kids.
Only 18% of impressions bought to reach “women 18 to 24” reached that demo.
43% of those impressions went to men, and 35% to people 55+.
Although — that would mean the backbone of a lot of digital platform ad spending is full of crap . . . which, well, now that can’t be true, right?
OH: Good news — it’s now more expensive to rent in Manhattan than ever. The median rent for new leases signed in February was $4,500. Eh, I’m sure those $22/hr assistant salaries will cover it. You can fit 6 people into a 2-bedroom, right? Ah, who am I kidding — you just can’t beat that 1-hr subway commute in from Ridgewood, Queens 🤌 where you’ll probably only need 1 or 2 roommates, tops!
THEN: Add convenience store sales to the list of sectors being hurt by higher prices, as C-store sales volume was -4.3% YoY in the period ending Feb. 23 according to CIRCANA.
While not stated in the WSJ piece — given that this seems to be directly translating into less fat- and sugar-filled food being bought . . . gotta think GLPs may be playing a small role as well here.
FINALLY: This was a great snapshot of the state of college sports as we approach March Madness, with the NYT looking at the “sudden rise” of the ST. JOHN’S basketball program this year, which coincided with not just attracting a coach who knows how to win in Rick Pitino . . . but also an alum (Mike Repole, VITAMINWATER magnate) to bankroll the NIL budget to the tune of $4M to attract the players.

Novocaine is looking at around $10M+ for PARAMOUNT this weekend according to the tracking out there — what do you think it’s looking like?
