Israel’s bloodiest day on the battlefield in Gaza will fuel the intensifying debate within the country on the direction of the war.

Twenty-four Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers killed within 24 hours is the highest daily death toll that the country’s military has experienced since the day of the Hamas attacks on October 7.

While three of the casualties were paratrooper officers who died during an attack on Hamas strongholds, the circumstances in which the 21 others died will be of greater concern to the Israeli public.
