Leona Tyler was born. A highly respected psychology teacher, researcher and writer, Tyler was renowned for her work on individual differences; most notably through her influential book 'The Psychology of Human Differences,' first published in 1947.

In 1973 Tyler served as president of the American Psychological Association and among the many honors she received during a long and distinguished career, Tyler was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal for Life Contribution by a Psychologist in the Public Interest by the American Psychological Foundation in 1990.
