Black turmeric is much more bitter than bitter melon. I winced after I tasted a smidgen of it. I was incredibly surprised, especially because it is so beautiful with smooth exterior and the blue interior. When I looked it up, the internet says black turmeric has the highest concentration of curcumin of all the types of turmeric. Chan gave me the dried black turmeric to play with. I'm thinking I can make an infusion of some sort as an immune booster.
