Why does the US really hate Cuba and Fidel Castro?

Because Castro said things like this

“Without Africa, without its sons and daughters, without its culture and customs, without its languages and its gods, Cuba would not be what it is today.”

If it was really about communism, the US wouldn't have partnerships with Vietnam and dozens of other socialist or communist countries. Truth is, the US suppresses any government that promotes anti-imperialist ideas.

Why do so many white Cubans despise Cuba today?

Cubans have a rich African culture that has become a huge part of Cuban society because it was once a slave colony. Many people don't realize just how many Cubans are Black and all the white Cubans who espouse racist ideas, do so by ignoring their own African ancestry.

Yes, many turn their backs on the Afro-Cuban side of their families. My grandfather did and I've been working for the last 10 years to reconnect with them because that's a huge part of our story and they belong in it.

Cuba put forth the effort to identify and acknowledge the history of slavery, how it shaped society, and made it a core part of the educational curriculum. The US wants to hide it.

Don't be fooled by much of the propaganda you see. It may be based on some truth, but Cuba is not the society they would have to believe it is.

Today is World Africa Day and Cuba’s celebration of it is bigger than most countries.
