Thank’s Murph☺️ I have to throw A.P. Murphy back at himself because his work always yanks me right out of my comfort zone and I always need that. Similarly, Jon T and William Pauley III always decenter me in ways I very much appreciate. I’m so bad at these, I have the recall of a rock. There are so many more of you, but I have to mention Elizabeth Lamont for her amazing Hell’s Kitchen series.
Outside of here… Kafka, Dostoevsky, Vonnegut, Angela Carter, the Icelandic Sagas, Poe, Shirley Jackson, Virginia Woolf, Katherine Dunn, and manga, everything by Junji Ito, but also Kentaro Miura’s Berserk (which I’m still reading).
Very happy to get a mention, though IMO I have better work out there…
I would hesitate to mention any particular story (too rushed to check titles) but the work of Honeygloom and NJ Fiction, in addition to those mentioned by Shony, have been a great encouragement to me.
Just now also exploring the work of Hanna Delaney and I think I’m a convert.
