sometimes i wonder how many versions of myself i’ve outgrown without even noticing. i look back at old photos and remember the thoughts i used to carry, the dreams i thought would save me. it’s strange how you can live inside yourself every day and still not realize you’re evolving. it’s only when you look back that you realize how far you’ve come, how many lives you’ve already lived in the same skin.

As you know my uncle, my father’s youngest brother, died in the USS Arizona. It forever impacted relationships in his family. It was said I looked like him although he died before I was born. He was merely a draftee, a cook we think.
I have been to the Memorial and we took my father. Incredibly beautiful and well done. Astounding to think of the young men entombed within. I like to think this cook played a huge role in what was to come. The It was thousands of sacrifices that built up to WW2 and the defeat of fascism. I haven’t a clue what they are teaching these days. A lot of my education of these times I got in my own home. Pity the generations that have no idea of sacrifice or common good and history.
Today I was a guest author at a small High School book faire. I didn’t bring books to sell (just display). Instead, the focus was on my my fully functional 70 year old Smith-Corona typewriter where I wrote “on-the-spot” stories on index cards for teens.
In 2 hours I wrote 18 mini-stories based on their ideas.
So many of them were amazed by the typewriter, fascinated by how it worked, and surprised someone could actually create an interesting little fiction story from a simple prompt in just a fe…

I went to the doctor today (everything is fine) and afterward, sat on a bench outside waiting for my ride.
An older woman sat down on the same bench and we started chatting. She’d been a long-haul truck driver with her husband before he had a heart attack and they retired.
