This week, I took myself out on a day date. Nothing fancy, just a slow breakfast, my notebook, a long walk, Christmas lights, coffee enjoyed warm, and meals I didn’t rush through. The past few weeks have been packed, and I could feel it in my body. That low-level stress and overwhelm that slowly becomes the background noise you stop noticing (and how easy it is to stop noticing it in December, especially as a mom when you’re pulled in every direction).
I talk about this with clients all the time: you can eat the most nutrient-dense meals, balance your plate, track your cycle, take every supplement… but if your nervous system is constantly on alert, your body won’t get the memo that it’s safe.
Chronic stress shows up everywhere: bloating, constipation, tighter clothes, shallow breathing, blood sugar swings, irritability, trouble concentrating, poor sleep, PMS that hits harder than usual. None of that means something is wrong with you. It is your biology trying to keep up.
And sometimes the support your body needs is less about adding more, and more about stepping out of the noise for a moment.
Taking some time for yourself, even for an hour, can be a reset. A reminder that you are a person, not a machine. That joy and space matter just as much as nutrients and minerals.
So this week maybe ask yourself: when was the last time you took yourself out on a date? When was the last time you made it high on your to-do list?
