Today a stranger helped me. The only language we shared was kindness.

The scene was a parking meter. All in Italian. The man wasn’t even parking a car, just passing by.

He showed me the way to use it, only to discover that it wasn’t accepting cards that day. I had €2 in my wallet.

So he gave me another €2 so I could have the 3 hours I needed.

Before I could object he’d already put his coin in the slot.

Then he waited till I had my receipt to put in my car window. He smiled, waved goodbye, and continued on his way.

I don’t speak Italian, he doesn’t speak English, but he could see a human who just needed help.

Despite everything going on in this world remember millions of kindnesses like this are happening every day.
