As my mindset shifts from a Protestant to a Catholic worldview, I’ve found myself slowly reframing how I think about some of these things.

There seems to be two main modes in Protestantism. The fundamentals believe that there is only one way to live through marriage and family while a more “woke protestant” may say, “Do whatever works for you”. However, Catholics believe in vocational callings, and while those vocations have strictures, there is room for diversity in the body of Christ. Different members will serve different functions.

So while there is a need for physicians and nurses, it is not necessary that mothers or even fathers of small children take on those jobs because then there would be a conflict of vocations. These jobs are better pursued by parents of older children or those who have been called to a celibate life. Much of my writing focuses on my vocation and the boundaries I have accepted for myself.

But there are many others who are called to various other vocations. This doesn’t make my worldview is not scalable, or even that I’m merely peripheral to society. I simply recognize that there are some people who are better suited to be nurses or physicians, and I am not one of them because I am committed elsewhere.

I do think a lot of modern people think they can “do it all”. But I find that idea to be more out of touch with reality and biology. We’re all human. We stretch ourselves thin and wear down our spirits when we over commit ourselves.
