Blessed Holy Week to all—

With Holy Week approaching, I was thinking of sharing a short daily meditation from St. Thomas Aquinas. Nothing from me—just his wisdom—but I’d do my best to walk you through it and help you understand it. Would that interest you?

This little book has been on my heart for a long time.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “I want to pray more... I just don’t know where to start,” you are exactly who I wrote this for.

The surrender of unhealthy attachments is an obvious one, but also the focus on the eternal and the shortness of our time is such a sobering reflection. I’m a better person for it. I wish I had started sooner.

He fled violent gangs in El Salvador that were threatening him and his family.

A U.S. court protected him from deportation. He got a work permit, a job, a wife, and three kids. No criminal record. Then ICE deported him anyway—by "mistake"—and dumped him into a Salvadoran prison built to house the very gangs he ran from.

No trial. No heari…

A few weeks ago, I started driving my commutes with no music, radio, or podcasts. Just complete silence. And it’s so relaxing.

Tomorrow, instead of the usual interview, I’ll be sharing a meditation on the suffering and death of Our Lord—featuring the profound insights of St. Thomas Aquinas. It’s Holy Week, and I hope this helps you draw closer to Christ.

5 ONE-BREATH PRAYERS FOR OVERWHELMED MOMENTS

1. Be still, my anxious heart. (Psalm 46:10)

2. Not my strength, but Yours. (Philippians 4:13)

3. Christ before me, Christ within me. (St. Patrick's Breastplate)

4. In this chaos, You remain. (Hebrews 13:8)

5. I offer this frustration as incense. (Psalm 141:2)

Sometimes the deepest prayers aren't long, just honest.

I don't know about the other writers on Substack, but I find myself at a loss when someone says some variant of, “That piece you wrote made me cry.”

I want to say “thank you” and “I'm sorry” are the same time!
