This is correct: to reestablish liberal credibility we must prosecute the present illiberal perpetrators and claw back everything from the profiteers.
But let’s underscore that this poses a dilemma: it implies that illiberal means will be required to restore liberal credibility — and I don’t see a single opposition politician with the imagination to even see this, much less with fortitude to do it.
If we are to have a ghost of a chance of restoring our relationships with our allies, especially if this asshole pulls out of NATO, we must prosecute him and everybody around him immediately after they leave office.
