Being a highly-ranked writer on substack & any other u.s.-based platforms for careerists is in direct contradiction to “our material struggle for collective liberation”.
When people make work that is popular with those who willingly, unrepentantly reproduce oppression, we should be asking ourselves why. Accumulating popularity/notoriety & the resources that come with it (clout, social capital) is antithetical to “collective liberation”.
There should always be a process of collective and self-critique & challenge, because we are not at all immune to reproducing the hierarchies of the society we live in simply because those hierarchies reproduce our oppression. That’s what a saying like “kill the cop in your head” is really about.
