I’ve been listening to Tyler Friedman’s music since the early 2010s, when he was still making something you could reasonably call minimal techno. But his music has been steadily getting more psychedelic over the years, and his latest album—a kind of virtual gamelan made with samples and modular synthesizers—is his most otherworldly release yet. We spoke about his process and influences (as well as his upbringing in the San Diego screamo scene).
