I think this was excellent advice until Bill Ackman tweeted it. He has now obsoleted this line, which today would likely strike people as a little courtly, but charmingly so. Come up with your own line instead! (In my single days, I deployed “hi, do you like talking to strangers,” and it worked pretty well — the trick is to genuinely have an open agenda for the conversation.)
