Check out my new updated post!
After I published this very long boycott list, some have been asking me, โwhat products should I use instead?โ
Hereโs your answer: a list of alternatives to the big companies you currently use. I have switched to many of the following:
EMAIL: mail.proton.me - secure encrypted email based in Switzerland. The company also offers secure VPN and other great services for your privacy. Gmail users take note: when you switch to this email app, you can set the app up so that it will connect to your current gmail. That way, you can slowly start using protonmail and let your contacts know that you are making the switch. DUMP GOOGLEโS GMAIL!
WEB BROWSER or SEARCH ENGINE: the following two companies do not collect your information for resale. You can use their search engine on any web browser, or use their own dedicated web browser. DUMP GOOGLE!
ecosia.org partners with online retailers to donate a portion of their sale to plant trees around the world. Use their ecosia.org, or web ecosia.org/browser
duckduckgo.com - The Internet privacy company that empowers you to seamlessly take control of your personal information online, without any tradeoffs. Use duckduckgo.com. Both are available at duckduckgo.com
aliexpress.com - why give Jeff Bezos your money when a large portion of what you might buy comes from China anyway? Aliexpress is admittedly a frustrating online store to navigate, but the prices are cheaper and the shipping is usually free and almost as fast as Amazon. If you know of other alternatives, please mention in the comments. DUMP AMAZON.
Social media alternatives: bsky.app, upscrolled.com/en, substack.com/about
DUMP ALL META apps: facebook, instagram, threads, whatsapp, messenger. You can do this gradually by inviting all your friends on those platforms to join you on the new platforms.
ALTERNATIVES TO ONLINE SHOPPING: support your local stores. Go into the stores and look around. If you need an item you think is only available on Amazon because the adverts took you there first, go ahead and check the Amazon price, then go elsewhere to find the product.
