And, what really appalls me is when followers of Christ still insist on thinking this way, still insist on thinking of themselves as the perpetual victim, even when they literally have everything, in a country that provides their every comfort, a husband who provides everything for them and is good to them. All things that people in other countries who are actually oppressed would sell their kidney for. These kinds of western women have completely, utterly missed the point of the Gospel and it’s heartbreaking. There is also a complete lack of gratitude and humility.

And I see it all the time with people at church, around town, whoever. Now churches need to highly prioritise deprogramming this way of thinking, but that’s a herculean task when almost everyone running the church also thinks this way, it is utterly the default in our culture. I feel that one of our tasks as mothers, as parents, is to do what we can to make sure this is not the default for the next generation. Lord have mercy, Lord help us.
