Following Lauren’s example, allow me to (re)introduce myself.
Hi, I’m Gunnar and I write Subtle Sparks, where I explore seemingly unrelated ideas from biology, technology, and philosophy (ants and prehistoric psychopaths? Runway models and sea squirts? Deep sea spiders and space travel?…). My goal is to find unlikely connections to build an interesting idea constellation.
In my writing, I try to find the balance between accuracy, nuance, and lyrical fun. Also, wordplay and Easter eggs. I want to give you something you can read more than once to keep discovering new secret doors to the weird wonders of the world.
If it matters, I have a PhD in biology, an extra degree in the philosophy of science, and seven plus years of experience as a science writer in a biotech research institute. I’ve also published a few dozen short stories in professional magazines. I find joy in writing, thinking, and tickling sentences until they do a trick, so I won’t use AI for that.
Come say hi, I only bite when invited to.
