“He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.

Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

(Philippians 2:8-11)

J.D. Vance, a Catholic, shares responsibility for mistakenly sending a man to a foreign jail where beatings, torture, malnutrition and murder are commonplace. Rather than correct this error, he chose to laugh and smile with the dictator who set up this gulag. And will do nothing to facilitate his return.

In Holy Week.

Are any of you Substack creators able to create a new video post right now, or does it default to an audio post (asking for an audio file) when you try to do that?

It’s late summer, 1992. The Bulls are back-to-back champs and now Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen have led the Dream Team to gold. You’re hanging out in the neighborhood when word whips around: MJ is at a BBQ at his mother-in-law’s house!

Thank you to my friend Alexis for sharing this story and the photos that her father took. Open up t…

We kneel at the foot of the cross, not to admire but to confess.

We confess that we’ve cheapened grace.

We confess that we love comfort more than Christ.

We confess that we’re afraid to die—metaphorically, spiritually, literally.

Getting an encouraging message from a reader out of the blue was a wonderful thing to wake up to. Blessed be God, who has been so good to me.

Judge Wilkinson, a conservative legal stalwart, and a person previously considered by a Republican president for SCOTUS, puts it simply enough today:

“It is difficult in some cases to get to the very heart of the matter. But in this case, it is not hard at all. The government is asserting a right to stash away residents of this country in foreign prisons without the semblance of due process that is the foundation of our constitutional order. Further, it claims in essence that because it has rid …

End Medicare Part D!

On this week’s Reason Roundtable (with

, , and in for a vacationing ), we talked about taxpayer-funded government programs that should be cut.

I picked a big-ticket item: Medicare Part D, the prescription drug benefit passed early in George W. Bush’s first term. Both he and Al Gore promised voters to gift this to sen…

American politics provides us very few moments of brevity at the moment, but this is one of them and I’d like to overanalyze it.

Everything about this graphic is awesome

-it genuinely looks like an ad for a documentary about how Donald Trump himself created the coronavirus in a lab

-it looks like Covid-19 SIGNED THE GRAPHIC

In the final stages of a (currently very long) essay on Fr. Vincent McNabb O.P., a dominican friar and Catholic radical of the interwar period, deeply influential on Dorothy Day, Chesterton, Maritain and (I strongly suspect) J.R.R. Tolkien. McNabb’s activism was in part an extension of the Arts and Crafts movement’s political expression,…

You know what’s insane?

Most of humanity hasn’t even begun to process the collective trauma we endured during the COVID years. We were psychologically manipulated, locked in our homes, isolated from loved ones, and pressured—or coerced—into taking an experimental injection.

Now, instead of acknowledgment or accountability, we’re being gaslit. Told to “move on,” as if none of it happened. As if the damage—to our bodies, our minds, our communities—was just a bad dream.

But it wasn’t. And healing starts by speaking the truth, no matter how uncomfortable.

Listen to this man very carefully. The majority of human beings will not be able to comprehend any of this. It is because they have already been programmed into deception. You must still have the ability of cognitive thinking, deductive reasoning and common sense to allow it to permeate within ones self. You all know who you are. The one…
