dear matt,

always appreciate you and your thoughts!

with regard to this:

"If women truly want men to be less toxic, they need to be more attracted to men who are vulnerable, harmless, and safe. That’s how you teach men to behave in a non-toxic way."

i'm glad that you follow it up with this:

"I’m not saying it’s all on you, ladies. Obviously, men can do better."

i do think that men changing is more on men. have you seen the twitter (x) account "Ask Aubry"?

here's one from recent days which seems somewhat relevant, on the subject of women being reasonable and men not learning from it: https://twitter.com/ask_aubry/status/1701340045137858982

thanks as always, friend!

love,

myq

Agreed, it's more on men. But the issues men are facing become problems for everyone in society. The "toxic masculinity is your fault"/"do better" approach many seem to adopt often ignores incentives and why/how men change. This is a good deep dive on the subject if you want a more legit take on all this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/07/10/christine-emba-masculinity-new-model/

agreed! thanks for sharing the article! it's great.

one noteworthy snippet: "Anxieties around masculinity aren’t unique to this moment. As early as 1835..."

and Arthur Schlesinger Jr. in 1958: "There are multiplying signs, indeed, that something has gone badly wrong with the American male’s conception of himself."

also, i like this stat: "nearly half of women reported in a TD Ameritrade survey that they out-earn or make the same amount as their husbands or partners" (sounds like equality! 50/50!)

and this is maybe my favorite portion from the article...

Scott Galloway: “My view is that, for masculinity, a decent place to start is garnering the skills and strength that you can advocate for and protect others with. If you’re really strong and smart, you will garner enough power, influence, kindness to begin protecting others. That is it. Full stop. Real men protect other people.”

thanks for sharing!
