Write about a book film or poem that influenced your writing.

If I had to choose one work that influenced my writing, it would be Coraline.

I watched it as a child and it unsettled me in a way I didn’t have language for yet. The idea that something beautiful could also be dangerous. That another world could look warmer, softer, more loving — but be hollow underneath.

I think that’s where my fascination with quiet darkness began.

Not gore. Not shock value.

But the slow creep. The subtle wrongness. The almost-safe spaces that aren’t.

Coraline taught me that horror can be domestic. That tension can live in hallways and behind doors. That bravery can look small and stubborn and ordinary.

A lot of what I write now still carries that feeling — the thin veil between comfort and control, between love and possession, between safety and surveillance.

I suppose I’ve been walking through little secret doors ever since.
