Thanks for the nomination, Leyah

I’m currently reading The Prophet by Khalil Gibran. It’s a deeply philosophical read exploring an old man who waited on an island for a ship to his homeland for 12 years. As the ship draws closer he can’t help but feel fear from leaving the island because he’s been there for 12 years and has become loved almost like Buddha.

I see a version of myself in him because he was a fool when he was younger, chasing wealth, falling in love hopelessly but at some point he just changed and started learning, becoming wiser and deciding to inspire others. There’s a famous line by him, “Children do not belong to their parents, they belong to life itself.” The parents that heard him say it disagreed but that line felt so freeing to me when I first read it.

He also says to love so deeply and wholesome even if it’s just for a month. So that’s it’s the deepest experience you and other person have. Such that even when you are in your 70s and you pass by each other, a glance will be all you need to remember. Because love in itself carries so much inherent value it doesn’t matter if there’s a timer on your love.

Now I’d like to nominate girl, Dante, ashirifia and Louis K. Wireko
